We keep it (really) clean

Everything we do is meant to ensure minimal impact to our planet. We use beeswax sourced in the United States for an eco-friendly, clean burn and FSC certified wooden wicks. Our candles are paraffin-free, cruelty-free, mutagen-free, and phthalate-free. All of our candles are wicked, poured, and labeled by hand in micro-batches in the San Francisco Bay Area.

What We're Doing

Sustainable Beeswax

We use beeswax in all of our candles. The beeswax we use is produced in America from renewable resources. We do not use paraffin wax - paraffin wax is derived from petroleum, originally crude oil, which is an unsustainable and non-renewable resource. Studies have also shown that paraffin wax candles emit toxic fumes when burning, while beeswax is non-toxic.

In addition, we don't use any soy wax. Soy wax has long been linked to deforestation and often produces environmentally harmful compounds while processing.

All Natural Scents

We collaborate with fragrance houses based in the United States to create our natural scents. Our fragrance oils are derived from both natural and high quality synthetic ingredients. We source only phthalate-free fragrance oils, which means they are non-toxic to burn. Research has shown that phthalates may be harmful to one's health and may cause birth defects. 

While our candles incorporate synthetic fragrance blends, they remain non-toxic. The reality is that working with certain natural fragrances and essential oils can be an unsustainable practice, due to the large quantity of material needed to produce a small amount of fragrance. For example, it takes about 8,000 roses to make 5 milliliters of rose essential oil. 

FSC Certified Wooden Wicks

We use only FSC certified wooden wicks, providing an even and clean burn to every candle. Wood wicks don't contain any metals or other compounds that usually result in black smoke while burning. 

Other wicks on the market include metal core wicks which use tin, aluminum, or lead - non-renewable resources. However, lead core wicks were banned in the United States in 2003. There are also wicks available that are primed with petroleum, which we do not use for the reasons listed above about paraffin wax.

Reusable Vessels & Packaging

We work with glass and tin vessels. All vessels can be reused and repurposed! Pencil holder, planter, bathroom organizer, etc. The glass vessels can be recycled onced cleaned.

All packaging and packing is reusable or recyclable as well! Our shipping peanuts are made from starch, fully biodegradable!

Carbon Offset Shipping

Every shipment we send is carbon neutral, with a portion of the shipping cost going towards carbon offset funds. All of the materials used are recyclable, and our packing peanuts are made with starch making them biodegradable. 

Plastic within your shipment (bubble wrap, air pillows, etc.), have been reused from shipments we received from another supplier. We would prefer to reuse it than to throw it away! Please reuse or recycle these!
